Meet Dr Tom Milligan

_
Dr Tom co-founded Adult Autism Assessments to address a growing need for accessible, respectful, and insightful autism assessments for adults.
His clinical practice is rooted in understanding each individual holistically, with a strong emphasis on helping people make sense of their own neurodivergence and build healthier, more empowered futures.
His passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals began long before formal training. It was through his own adult autism diagnosis that he came to truly understand the gaps in how healthcare systems engage with neurodivergent people. This led him to pursue postgraduate studies in Neurodiversity in Healthcare and gain UK-recognised qualifications in autism assessment, including:
ACIA (Autism Clinical Interview for Adults)
ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition)
ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised)
Prior to specialising in neurodiversity, Dr Tom spent two decades in general practice, earning national recognition for his patient-centred approach.
His outstanding rapport with patients earned him the Clinician of the Year award from the National Association of Primary Care. Earlier in his career, he completed psychiatry placements in both the UK and New Zealand - experiences that further informed his holistic and empathetic consultation style.
As a late-diagnosed autistic professional, Dr Tom understands firsthand the journey many of his patients face. His goal is to help others find clarity, validation, and support through diagnosis, delivered with warmth, genune care, expertise, and respect.
“My personal experience with autism led me to co-create the service. My aim is to help others find a positive pathway to diagnosis in a timely manner, and at a reasonable cost.”
Dr Tom leads a team that reflects the values of the service: many team members are neurodivergent themselves or have lived experience within their families. At AAA, every person is treated as an individual—because we know that every story is different.
